Here are some websites I like. Maybe you'll like them, too. Or, maybe, you're playing around on the Internet to avoid doing those important but boring tasks that are really getting to be overdue.

So am I.

Writing Sites

The Children's Writer's & Illustrator's Chat Board at verlakay.com is a great resource for, uh, children's writers and illustrators. There are threads on everything from plotting to response times.

Unfortunately, the (in?)famous Miss Snark has hung up her stilettos, but you can still check her archives.

You can get your query critiqued, if you dare at Evil Editor's blog.

Blogging agents Kristin Nelson and Nathan Bransford offer daily updates of advice and anecdotes.

Agent X talks about her clients and sometimes goes through the queries she receives.

And "Daphne Unfeasible" at kt literary is a recent addition to the blogosphere, already answering reader questions.

Writers' Sites

Shevi Arnold is one of the Fantasyweavers and a fantastic writer and illustrator. Check out her work at her site! (Internet Explorer recommended.)

Neil Gaiman's blog always has interesting links, factoids, and/or anecdotes.

This website for Diana Wynne Jones is a fansite, but it still has lots of info.

Online Comics

Gunnerkrigg Court by Tom Siddell is the ongoing adventure of Antimony Carver, a girl at a strange new school where shadows come to life and gods have a problem with people trespassing in the forest.

White Ninja Comics are the ultimate in non-sequitur.

I don't play role-playing games, so I don't know why I find the Order of the Stick so funny. But you better believe I do.

I am a nerd. XKCD is a comic for nerds. 'Nuff said.

The Perry Bible Fellowship may not be your cup of tea. But, if you like dark, absurdist humour, then put that kettle on!

Fun For Everyone

Plan Canada offers Canadians great ways to make a difference internationally.

Word games and food for the hungry: a match made in heaven. Each time you pick the correct definition of a word at FreeRice, more rice is donated to those in need.

One click a day at The Hunger Site and its sister sites donates food, medical supplies, and money to people in need.

More Fun Stuff

So fanfiction has a pretty bad rap with a lot of people. And, admittedly, on fanfiction.net, you see a lot of pretty bad fanfiction. But isn't it neat? How anyone can take a text and transform it to reflect their own values and perspective? No? Well... okay. I forgive you.

Speaking of fanfiction, Star Trek: Phase II is a fan-created online Star Trek series. And it is made of awesome.

I Used to Believe is a collection of reader-submitted confessions of things they believed as small children.

I like FerretBrain, an e-zine that sometimes reviews things I recognize.

I also like ThinkGeek, an online store that puts the "win" in "window-shopping".

Do you miss the good old days of classic Sesame Street? Do you recognize the names "Guy Smiley", "The Amazing Mumford", and "Forgetful Jones"? Then, like me, you may enjoy wasting your time at the Sesame Street Video Player

More links to come as I procrastinate further...
